About

Gonçalo Matos is a Portuguese architectural photographer with a background in architecture.

He studied at the Faculdade de Lisboa and holds a master’s degree in Architecture from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.

After working at the architecture office of Manuel Aires Mateus in Lisbon, Gonçalo transitioned into architectural photography, moving away from traditional architecture practice and embracing a more experimental approach to visual expression.

His work is guided by a deep interest in image and storytelling, evolving into a personal practice that intersects architecture, cinema, and photography.

In 2025, he was awarded the RCR PHotoESPAÑA Grant.
